How do we go about cleaning and restoring your Victorian tiles !
Stripping:
We always find that Victorian tiles indoors have been sealed with something or other over the years. This can be bees wax, linseed oil, modern acrylic wax and we have even had to remove varnish before. These coatings will prevent our detergents and cleaners from doing the job properly, so the first step is always to remove these first.
Deep Clean:
Using our professional knowledge and experience we will deep clean these tiles better than is achievable by the home owner
Repair the tiles:
In most old Victorian floors we find there are tiles that need to be replaced or are missing. This we do with Olde English and Original style equivalents and cut the tiles to size etc. We repair and strengthen damaged screed and dips. We can basically do anything required given sufficient time.
Sealing and refinishing:
This is the final stage and requires perfectly clean tiles that we will then refinish and seal with multiple coats of a good modern acrylic wax. This is imperative as these tiles are very porous and this wax will protect the tiles. We usually aim for a medium gloss look as this both looks great and promises more longevity than high gloss finishes.
