Quarry tile Cleaning & Restoration – Hertfordshire

We can bring your old Quarry and Terracotta tiles back to life…

Quarry and Terracotta tile can be found in many an old traditional home. These tiles are very characteristic and often if one looks closely the subtle marks and wearing on the tiles tell you bits about what went on in your house all those years ago.

These tiles are quite special in this respect and it is also possible to get them looking great aswell.

Restoring Quarry Tiles

Stripping quarry and terracotta tiles:

We often go through some sort of stripping process as we find they have usually been sealed with all sorts of things in the past. This can range from linseed oils, bees wax and more recent polymer modified waxes. We have also found more extreme coating such as varnishes and paint.

We will remove all of this and then deep clean the tiles with specialist cleaners that allow us to remove more dirt and staining than household detergents.

Replacing missing quarry tiles:

We usually find that some of the tiles need replacing if they are broken or missing. There are different ways to replace these tiles and it depends on what your tiles are like as these Quarry tiles vary allot. In the past we have used the Old English and Original style tiles as they look very similar. We have also made extensive use of reclamation yards and even Ebay to find replacements.

Sealing Quarry and Terracotta tiles:

Once all the dirt and coatings have been removed from the tiles they are essentially naked and subject to staining due to their porous nature.

We therefore apply multiple coatings of wax to protect the floor and enhance the color and really make them look good again! We are able to bring the floor up to higher shine if required by our clients.
