I am a specialist Victorian tile restorer covering West London, Chiswick and Ealing. I do cover all surrounding areas as well. I can deep clean these tiles better than just about anyone. I can repair and restore all issues you may have with the tiles and sub base. Afterwards we can decide on how you would like it finished with waxes, seals and coatings. Deep cleaning process for Victorian hallway tiles
There is no quick fix for cleaning Victorian tiles properly and the reason they remain dirty over the decades is that the old solidified waxes and oils sitting deep inside the tiles is very hard to remove. To clean them one has to focus in on every tile and square inch with several different chemicals and professional cleaning methods. It can take up to two days on a standard size hallway if they are hard to clean.
The cleaning process and chemicals are similar for exterior Victorian tiles on pathways except that we use more mold removing chemicals and they can not be finished with topical waxes that make these tiles shine. Instead we can only seal them with color enhancing impregnating type tile sealers.
After the deep cleaning stage we are usually left with quite porous flat dull looking tiles. You can see the naked tiles in the top part of the image above. This is because all of the hardened oils and waxes that where darkening the tiles have been drawn out. Now we need to refinish the tiles with clean new sealers and waxes.
